About the Role
We are looking for a Head of Engineering, Payment and Checkout to lead the strategic development of our payment and checkout systems. This role will oversee both the Payment and Checkout teams of 15 engineers, focusing on seamless, secure, and scalable solutions for customers and sellers. With a strong focus on e-commerce payment technologies, you’ll lead a cross-functional team in creating innovative, performant systems that power both user experience and business growth.
As a key leader in the engineering organization, you will collaborate closely with product teams, technical partners, and senior leadership to deliver robust solutions. You’ll be responsible for designing system architecture, ensuring scalability, and optimizing workflows to meet the growing needs of our platform.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead a talented team of 15 engineers (both backend and frontend) in the development of payment and checkout features that power customer transactions on Vestiaire Collective.
Collaborate with product, design, and business teams to align the team’s goals with company objectives, ensuring we meet both user and business needs.
Drive system architecture and design decisions that support scalability, reliability, and performance in handling high transaction volumes, while ensuring system resiliency, fault tolerance, and robust recovery mechanisms to minimize downtime and ensure continuous service even during peak loads or unexpected failures.
Manage the end-to-end software lifecycle from ideation through to production, focusing on continuous improvement and innovative solutions.
Implement cutting-edge technologies such as internal wallets, AI-driven personalization, and advanced payment methods to ensure the most efficient and flexible solutions for our customers.
Optimize payment flows, ensuring a seamless, transparent, and secure checkout experience, helping customers confidently complete their transactions.
Foster a team culture of openness, collaboration, and high performance, driving both individual and collective growth.
Establish clear communication across teams to ensure alignment on product roadmaps, technical solutions, and business goals.
Advocate for best practices in coding, software design, and architecture, ensuring the team follows modern, maintainable, and efficient patterns.
Who You Are
Fluent in English (French is a plus). Please send your application in English only.
A proven leader with extensive experience managing high-performing engineering teams, particularly in the payment space for e-commerce platforms.
Technical expertise in backend technologies, with a deep understanding of system architecture, microservices, and distributed systems. Experience with PHP and Go is a must, as well as Hexagonal Architecture and asynchronous communication.
Payment system expert, with knowledge of global payment solutions, fraud prevention, security standards (PCI-DSS), and integrating payment gateways. Specific expertise with Braintree and Adyen is a plus.
Architecturally minded, with the ability to design and optimize scalable and secure systems to handle millions of transactions daily.
A strong communicator who can articulate technical concepts clearly and foster cross-functional collaboration across teams.
Experienced in agile development methodologies, with a focus on continuous delivery, iterative improvements, and high-quality standards.
Product-focused, understanding how technical decisions impact user experience and business outcomes.
